How it works

The Auto Depreciation Curve Calculator estimates the current value of your vehicle by applying a standard depreciation formula. Cars typically lose value over time, with the most significant depreciation occurring in the first few years. The calculator uses the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) and the age of the vehicle to compute its depreciation. For example, if your car has an MSRP of $35,000 and is 3 years old, we can apply an estimated depreciation rate of 15% for the first year, followed by 10% for the second year, and 8% for the third year. In the first year, the car loses $5,250 (15% of $35,000), bringing its value to $29,750. In the second year, it depreciates another $2,975 (10% of $29,750), reducing its value to $26,775. Finally, in the third year, it loses $2,142 (8% of $26,775), resulting in an estimated current value of $24,633. This method allows you to visualize the annual loss and overall depreciation of your vehicle effectively.
